ITDC launches Tourism Awareness Programme

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism has launched a Tourism Awareness Programme (TAP) for taxi, cab, and coach drivers to offer behavioural and soft skill training, with basic knowledge of foreign language.

The programme comes under the ‘Capacity Building for Service Provider’ scheme, and was officially launched by Sambit Patra, Chairman of ITDC, at The Ashok Hotel in New Delhi in the presence of over 200 participants representing the transportation sector.

Dr Patra released the training manual jointly with Piyush Tiwari, Director, Commercial & Marketing, and Harsh Bhutani, GM, Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management.

Dr Patra said: “Over the last two years, the tourism industry has witnessed a tidal shift in growth, and with the world gradually opening up, we need to take crucial steps towards redefining tourist services. With this programme, we aim to enhance the learnings of ‘saarthis’ and provide them with the right skill set to effectively and efficiently present themselves and service tourists exploring Incredible India.”

Dr Patra further applauded the women drivers and emphasised their importance in ensuring the comfort of foreign tourists.

G. Kamala Vardhana Rao, IAS, CMD, ITDC, said: “As we strengthen our focus towards redefining the tourism segment, it is vital to recognise the efforts and contributions of important segment such as Drivers of Tourist transport. With the initiation of the Tourism Awareness Programme, necessary steps toward the growth and learning of this sector would be undertaken. Ashok Institute of Hospitality & Tourism Management and HRD division of ITDC are proud to be a part of this programme.”
