The Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee Chamber Music Festival

The Voice of Music in the Upper Galilee” will celebrate its 32nd birthday this summer in the beautiful northern region of the Upper Galilee, a perfect combination of nature and music.

In the five days of concerts visitors will find dozens of concerts: chamber, orchestral as well as vocal, informal concerts, meetings with artists, movies and open rehearsals. This wealth invites listeners to dive into the wonderful intoxicating world of music of all kinds.

The festival has always sought new paths while preserving the past. A tradition has been created with artists that have returned year after year, creating a core group of performers. Musicians include violinist soloist and chamber musician Boris Brovtsyn,  Harpist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Marie-Pierre Langlamet and Croatian guitarist Petrit Çeku. Bassoonist Mor Biron, who has been playing in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for several years will also make his first appearance in the festival. Others include the Barrocade soloists in two programs and pianist and composer Matan Porat with a world premiere of his new Clarinet Quintet. The popular singer Eran Zur will be the narrator in several programs where music meets words such as: “A Soldiers’ Tale”, reading the letters of Janácek to his love Kamila, reading the Edgar Allan Poe's poem in “Mask of the Red Death” and others.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the presentation of “Violins of Hope” concert. For the past 40 years violin maker Amnon Weinstein has been collecting violins which survived the World War II. These violins will be played by the Israel Camerata Jerusalem and soloists. A similar concert was presented last year in Berlin with members of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. In this concert we will hear the Israel Premier of Ohad Ben-Ari’s composition “Violins of Hope” which was especially commissioned for the Berlin concert.

As every year the festival will host the Upper Galillee Choir directed by Ron Zarchi, this year with a production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas. Musicians of “Musethica” will spread the love for music in the region for audiences that are not able to come to the concert halls. Ensemble Meitar will cooperate with singer Alon Oleartchik and bassist/singer Eli Magen will present his show "Man of the Next World".
