Chardham Yatra halted as heavy rains lashes Uttarakhand

The Chardham Yatra has been halted as heavy rains have lashed Uttarakhand and several other states. Authorities in Uttarakhand have advised the Chardham pilgrims who have reached Rishikesh and Haridwar from different parts of the country, to not undertake any further Yatra to the Himalayan temples till the time weather conditions improve and are conducive for Yatra.

There are reports of passenger vehicles not being allowed to cross the Chandrabhaga bridge, Tapovan, Lakshman Jhoola and Muni-ki-Reti Bhadrakali barriers in Rishikesh. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has visited the State Disaster Control Rroom at the secretariat in Dehradun to take stock of the emerging situation.

Five people have been killed because of the heavy rains over the last couple of days. Three people have died at Samkhal near Lansdowne in Pauri district and two have lost lives when their house collapsed following a landslide at Selkhola in Champawat district.
